Post-war economic reconstruction: best practices and examples of successful countries

Abstract

Due to the ongoing confrontation with Russian aggression, Ukraine's economy is in a state of war, and there are already a number of restrictions that have a significant negative impact on the further development of the country. First of all, it is necessary to return the economy to recovery mode based on a qualitative but realistic strategy based on the experience of other countries. It is obvious that the post-war recovery of Ukraine's economy should and will be supported by international financial institutions and funds, both public and private. It is also worth noting that the international community has already demonstrated its readiness to provide support to the affected Ukrainian economy by creating joint mechanisms for infrastructure restoration, institutional modernization and economic transformation. The purpose of the article is to analyze the most effective examples of the world experience of post-war economic reconstruction, the main mechanisms and tools that ensured the development of European and Asian countries after the war, and to provide relevant proposals for the specific situation of Ukraine's post-war development. In the research process, general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, systematization, and generalization were used. As a result, it can be pointed out that Ukraine should take a direct part in the preparation and implementation of international economic recovery measures and present its own vision of post-war development to its foreign partners, taking into account international experience and risks. Each of the models of foreign experience of post-war development aid considered in this study requires careful analysis, study and comprehensive application, taking into account the best aspects of its effective impact on Ukraine. Since the war in Ukraine is likely to be protracted, development strategies and post-war economic plans should take into account not only peaceful needs, but also military measures to counter current aggressors and the challenges of initial preparations for full-scale post-war development.
