Abstract Tourism is an extremely important element of the economy of many European countries. For Ukraine, this sphere of activity has also traditionally played a significant role in the economy, contributing to the development of infrastructure, as well as the development and improvement of the living standards of local communities and the attraction of foreign investment companies. Before the war in 2013-2014, tourism in Ukraine showed a positive growth curve and dynamics, in particular due to the unique cultural component, natural complexes and tourist destinations such as Kyiv, Lviv, Carpathians, Odessa and Crimea.
However, with the outbreak of hostilities in eastern Ukraine in 2014 and after a full-scale invasion and aggression by the russian federation in 2022, the tourism industry of the Ukrainian people has suffered serious losses. The infrastructure was significantly destroyed, cultural monuments of architecture suffered, and this situation eventually hindered the development of tourism. Tourism, which was an important part of the Ukrainian economy, experienced a significant crisis, which affected the economic results and living standards of the local population.
In particular, problems with establishing security in the country and economic difficulties significantly reduced the flow of tourists both from the foreign community and from the Ukrainians. However, despite these problematic consequences of the war in the country, Ukraine still retains some significant potential for restoring the tourism sector after the end of the military conflict. An important part of improving the tourist status is the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage and culture, the development of new tourist destinations and ways to attract international investment programs.
