Abstract

In the current context of global environmental challenges, climate change, and the strengthening of international standards of environmental responsibility, the combination of economic growth with the principles of sustainable development is becoming one of the main directions of the strategic development of enterprises. Ukrainian businesses are increasingly facing the need to adapt to the requirements of the green economy. It determines new approaches to resource management and competitive advantages in international markets. The article's purpose is to examine the relationship between the concept of sustainable development and the economic efficiency of Ukrainian enterprises in the context of green transformation. A set of methods was used to achieve this: systematic analysis of the scientific literature, an abstract-logical method for forming theoretical generalizations regarding the green economy, and an information-analytical method for assessing the financial benefits of green initiatives. The study showed that the concept of sustainable development in the Ukrainian context is evolving into a sustainability paradigm that requires a complex balance between an immediate response to crisis challenges and a long-term vision of green transformation. It has been established that integrating environmental and social responsibility, formalized through ESG criteria, ceases to be an idealistic or reputational requirement and becomes a fundamental, measurable factor in economic efficiency. It has been proven that green initiatives deliver long-term reductions in operating costs by implementing energy- and resource-efficient technologies. It reduces dependence on price fluctuations in traditional resources. Compliance with ESG standards opens access to preferential international financing (e.g., green Eurobonds), a source of capital for modernization. Taken together, these factors significantly enhance product competitiveness in demanding European markets and foster loyalty among conscious consumers. It has been proven that integrating the principles of sustainable development and the green economy is a strategic investment that generates significant, long-term economic efficiency and sustainability for domestic businesses.
