Abstract

The article explores the transformation of the contemporary model of globalization and its implications for the development of the international economy and Ukraine’s international economic activity. The study examines structural shifts in international trade, capital movements, global value chains, technology transfer, and institutional regulation under conditions of growing geoeconomic instability, geopolitical tensions, digitalization, and the increasing regionalization of the world economy. Particular attention is paid to the reconfiguration of global production networks, the rise of protectionist tendencies, and the changing role of the state in regulating external economic relations.

The paper identifies the specific features of Ukraine’s functioning as an open economy within the system of international economic relations and analyzes the impact of global transformations on its foreign trade structure, investment flows, and sectoral specialization. The role of the European integration vector is emphasized as a strategic factor shaping regulatory convergence, market access, and institutional modernization. The current state of Ukraine’s international economic activity is assessed, highlighting structural imbalances in exports, the limited share of high value-added products, and existing investment constraints.

The research substantiates the necessity of structural economic transformation, export diversification, strengthening participation in global value chains, and improving the institutional environment as key prerequisites for enhancing Ukraine’s long-term competitiveness. It is argued that effective adaptation to the evolving global economic architecture requires a balanced combination of integration strategies, innovation-driven development, and institutional reforms aimed at increasing resilience to external shocks.
