Abstract

In today's conditions of transformation and increased competition, effective decision-making is a critical factor in the success of any organization, especially for startups in the early stages of development. The study aims to study the features of decision-making in Israeli startups, considering the conditions of uncertainty. The work uses methods of comparative analysis and case studies of successful and unsuccessful Israeli startups (Mobileye, Waze, Better Place, Quixey, Homejoy). Israeli startups are compared with startups in Silicon Valley, Europe and Asia, and each region's strengths, weaknesses, and success factors are considered. The study showed that Israeli startups are characterized by high risk-taking, innovativeness and adaptability to change due to the influence of chutzpah as a cultural phenomenon. In the context of Israel's technological development, chutzpah acts as a catalyst for innovation, encouraging the search for unconventional solutions and open discussion of ideas. It was found that successful startups use different decision-making models depending on the situation: rational (Mobileye), intuitive (Better Place), and heuristic (Waze). Mobileye's success is due to rational planning, a focus on technology, and strategic partnerships. Waze succeeded due to an agile, adaptive approach and user-centricity. Better Place fails due to intuitive decision-making, insufficient market analysis, and underestimating competitors. Quixey failed to succeed due to over-optimism, a focus on attracting investment, and ignoring market realities. Homejoy failed due to aggressive growth, insufficient attention to operational efficiency, and legal issues. The study highlights the importance of effective decision-making processes for startup success. Balancing rational approaches with adaptability and flexibility is necessary, considering all factors affecting business development. Startup success depends on innovative ideas and an effective decision-making process that adapts to dynamic market conditions.
