The topicality of the topic lies in the key role of the territorial community in the processes of decentralization and regional development. The considered scientific approaches to determining the essence of a territorial community help to better understand its structure, functions and potential for ensuring sustainable development. It has been established that the study of the development prospects of territorial communities is extremely important for the formation of effective state policy, which will contribute to strengthening local self-government, increasing the economic capacity of regions and improving the quality of life of the population. The purpose of the article is the systematization and analysis of scientific approaches to determining the essence of a territorial community, with an emphasis on the theoretical foundations and practical aspects of its functioning, as well as the identification of unresolved parts of the general problem for further research aimed at the development of a holistic model of management and development of territorial communities. Research methods include theoretical analysis - for the study of various scientific concepts and approaches to determining the essence of a territorial community, analysis of scientific works, monographs and articles on this topic; the method of comparative analysis - for comparing different scientific approaches, models and concepts related to the definition of a territorial community; the historical-genetic method - for researching the evolution of approaches to defining a territorial community in a historical context; systemic approach – for considering the territorial community as a system consisting of interconnected elements and analyzing their interaction; modeling method - with the help of this method, a theoretical model was formed that describes various aspects of the functioning of territorial communities, their structure and development. The results of the study demonstrated that the territorial community functions as a system where effective management depends on the interaction of social, economic and political factors. This confirmed the expediency of applying a systemic approach to community analysis. Conclusions. As a result of the conducted research, it was established that all the considered approaches reveal different facets of the territorial community, showing that its essence cannot be determined through one dimension. Each approach contributes to the understanding of complex processes occurring at the local level, from social interaction to economic planning and environmental sustainability. Combining these approaches will allow creating a more holistic picture of the functioning of territorial communities and developing comprehensive management strategies that take into account all these factors.
