The article examines the impact of ethical standards on the effectiveness of financial auditing in the banking sector, emphasizing the crucial role of professional ethics in ensuring the reliability, transparency, and credibility of financial audits. The relevance of the topic is driven by the increase in financial risks, the growing complexity of banking operations, and the high sensitivity of the banking system to public trust. Global experience with ineffective audit practices has demonstrated that purely technical compliance with auditing standards is insufficient in the absence of a strong ethical foundation.
The aim of the article is to determine how adherence to ethical standards—such as integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, and professional competence—affects the quality of audit conclusions and contributes to the stability of the banking system.
The study employed the following methods: literature analysis to explore current academic approaches, and generalization and systematization to provide a structured and logical presentation of the research results.
Results. The analysis of both international and national frameworks of professional ethical standards revealed that the effectiveness of audits in banking institutions is closely linked to auditors' ethical integrity and the capacity of regulatory bodies to enforce and monitor compliance with these standards. It was found that trust in financial audits directly depends on the transparency of audit procedures and the ethical discipline maintained during audit engagements. The study presents evidence of ethical breaches in banking audits and identifies their consequences, including loss of investor confidence, initiation of legal actions against auditors, and increased instability within the banking system.
Conclusions. Ethical standards are not merely normative declarations but practical tools for enhancing audit quality and ensuring the financial stability of the banking sector. The integration of fundamental ethical principles at all stages of the audit process, supported by effective oversight and institutional accountability, is essential for maintaining trust in financial auditing and safeguarding the security of the banking system.
