The article outlines the importance of the craft production development as one of the key factors in the successful diversification of the economy of mountain settlements. The importance of mountainous areas as a source of natural resources and natural landscapes has been emphasized, as well as the economic vulnerability of these regions due to limited industrial specialization. Diversification of the economy is proposed as a strategy to reduce risks and create conditions for sustainable economic development. One of the ways to develop the economy of mountain areas in modern conditions is the production of craft products. The main advantages and characteristics of craft production have been established. The key resources in the mountainous territories have been defined: natural, cultural and historical, social cooperation resource, use of labor resources and resources of identical products. Indicators that shape the positive impact of craft production on the growth of social and economic development of mountain areas, in particular, such as the growth of incomes and employment of the population, the development of infrastructure, payments to the local budget, and retail trade, have been proposed. A matrix of the development of craft production within the mountain areas of Zakarpattia region has been developed in six directions and the following indicators: the number of enterprises, the type of craft production, types of products produced and the impact on the diversification of the economy of the mountain areas. A conclusion was made about the relevance of craft production in the mountainous territories of Zakarpattia region and the need to develop effective strategies that will help territorial communities to carry out successful economic transformation and improve the quality of life of the population. The development of craft production actively contributes to the increase in the flow of tourists, the development of the hotel and restaurant business, and the activation of local entrepreneurship. However, for the practical implementation of these approaches and the achievement of positive results in the development of mountain regions, the active participation of the state, local authorities and the business community is necessary.
