Abstract

Sustainable development of infrastructure projects in modern conditions is of particular importance, as infrastructure is a key factor in socio-economic stability, regional cohesion and the achievement of climate and digital goals. The purpose of the study is to determine the essence of the sustainability of infrastructure projects, generalize scientific and methodological approaches to its assessment and develop scientific and practical recommendations for its provision based on the experience of the EU. The article, based on the analysis of key trends in the field of infrastructure and transport in 2025, concludes that these changes directly affect the sustainable development of infrastructure systems in both the short and long term. The key infrastructure trends of 2025 are aimed at forming an infrastructure system that is more sustainable, safe, innovative and inclusive, which corresponds to the pan-European and global approaches to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It has been determined that sustainable development of infrastructure projects requires a systemic approach that covers all stages of the life cycle from strategic planning to modernization and transformation. In the context of growing social, economic and environmental challenges, the key task is to integrate the principles of sustainability at all stages of the preparation and implementation of infrastructure projects. A comprehensive approach to sustainable development involves a combination of a long-term vision, financial responsibility, innovative technologies, active community participation and good governance. At the same time, it is important to ensure not only the construction of the facility, but also its effective operation, social acceptability, economic viability and environmental safety in the long term. The main stages of sustainable development of an infrastructure project are summarized, outlining key tasks, necessary actions, expected results, involved participants and implementation tools for each of them. This approach allows you to clearly structure the process, while maintaining a focus on the long-term effectiveness of the project. It is shown how the combination of community involvement and the infrastructure-service approach contributes to the achievement of various aspects of sustainability (social, economic, environmental, cultural, functional, institutional and service) through specific participation mechanisms, solutions and expected effects. The approaches of EU countries to ensuring the sustainability of infrastructure projects are systematized, with a focus on public participation mechanisms and the service potential of infrastructure.
